01 Overview

Washington is the heart of the snowbird corridor in reverse — the move north up the same I-95 that brings seasonal residents down to the Palm Beaches every winter. It is one of our most-run long-haul routes, and we carry it entirely in-house: our crew loads in Lake Worth and the same crew unloads in the DC area.

Leaving Florida for good? Palm Beach County moving crew keeps the whole haul on one truck with one crew, the price locked in writing before we load.

The drive: 1,000 miles straight up I-95

From Lake Worth we get on I-95 and essentially stay on it — up the Florida coast, through the Carolinas and Virginia, and into the Washington metro, about 1,000 miles. It is a two-to-three-day run. We load early to beat South Florida’s summer storms and heat, then make steady time up the eastern seaboard.

Who is moving to the DMV

  • Professionals headed into government, law, defense, and contracting work.
  • Adult children and grandchildren the snowbirds spend their winters away from.
  • Families relocating for university and hospital systems across the region.
  • Seasonal residents reversing the classic Florida-to-Northeast pattern.

What changes in the capital region

The DMV brings four full seasons — humid summers, crisp falls, and cold, sometimes snowy winters that are a world away from Lake Worth’s mild dry season. Housing runs to brick rowhouses, garden condos, and basements, and the high-rises in DC, Arlington, and Bethesda enforce strict move-in windows and certificate-of-insurance rules — exactly the kind of building logistics we already manage every day on South Florida’s oceanfront towers.

The flat rate, locked in writing

We inventory the home, coordinate any COI and freight-elevator reservation on the DC end, and quote one binding number under our interstate authority. The date is reserved with $115 down, an amount applied as a credit on the bill. Protection is $0.60 per pound released value standard, full-value optional, with up to $1,000,000 cargo coverage per shipment.

02 Why us

Whatever name is painted on the truck is the same name signed on your contract

Book Sawgrass and the truck at your curb is ours, the paperwork is ours, and the bilingual crew wheeling your sofa onto the condo freight elevator draws a Palm Beach County paycheck from us — your move is never sold off. A broker runs the opposite way: they shop your job to whoever underbids that week, then vanish from the picture.

Sawgrass Moving and Relocation
  • The trucks belong to us and so do the full-time, background-checked movers riding in them — we never staff a job with day labor scraped off a listing board
  • Whatever figure we put on paper is the figure you settle — locked in, signed, and exact to the dollar
  • One unchanged crew, from the first box hoisted onto the truck to the last one carried through your new door
  • Florida (FDACS) intrastate moving registration, USDOT/MC on the books for interstate runs, and every single job backed by full insurance and up to $1,000,000 in cargo coverage
  • One Lake Worth office and one point of contact, from your first call to the last box set down
What a broker does
  • Hands your move off to whatever outfit happens to undercut the rest that week
  • Allows the price to balloon the day of the move, padded with extras that were never raised beforehand
  • Sends a crew you have not exchanged a single word with up your staircase, your whole household in their hands
  • Keeps it vague about which insurance policy actually covers a TV that hits the floor
  • Stands a call center in your way, so reaching whoever eventually turns up to load is a maze

Questions we hear about this route

How fast can you deliver to the DC area?
Most homes arrive two to three days after we load. It is about 1,000 miles straight up I-95, and we hold a firm written delivery window. Building-restricted moves in DC, Arlington, or Bethesda we coordinate around the reserved elevator and dock time on the receiving end.
Is the DC price binding given the heavy I-95 mileage?
Yes, fully binding. We fold the long northbound line-haul into the quote before you sign, so the figure does not change because of the miles. What we write is what you pay in the DMV.
We are seasonal — does moving in spring versus fall change anything?
The flat rate stays steady; the calendar is what moves. Spring departures north (after the snowbird season winds down) and fall returns south are our busiest DC-corridor stretches, so book ahead. A $115 charge up front locks both date and price together.
